Mark Abramowitz Testifies at the Ohio State Legislature in Opposition to Ohio House Bill 251

Jun 19, 2019

Mark Abramowitz of DiCello Levitt Gutzler spoke yesterday before the Ohio House Civil Justice Committee on behalf of small business owners and the Ohio Association of Justice. The committee was gathering testimony for and against HB 251, which seeks to reduce the statute of limitations on contracts from 8 years to 3 years.

Abramowitz spoke against the bill and asked the committee to find a middle ground that won’t be determinantal to small businesses. He criticized the statue revision saying when small businesses are taken advantage of by larger companies, the schemes are often so complex that the statute of limitations might expire before the wrongdoing is discovered. He added that the reduction, which is more complicated than it appears on the surface, would harm small business owners because a shorter statute of limitations would prevent them from being made whole from the harm.

The next hearing on HB 251 has not yet been set.
